Mobile Learning Institute Earth Day Challenge

Mobile Learning Institute Earth Day Challenge

a summer program, developed in partnership with the Jane Goodall Institute, that encourages young people to make short films about the environment. Through the Digital Arts Alliance, which it cofounded, the Pearson Foundation brings mobile learning experiences like the Earth Day Challenge to over 10,000 students in Florida and across the US. For example, two students from University High School in Orlando won $25,000 worth of digital arts technology and support for their school as Grand Prize winners in the 2008 Mobile Learning Institute Earth Day Challenge, sponsored by the Pearson Foundation and Nokia. The Challenge is a global, environmental, filmmaking competition that provides young people with the chance to share their views on the earth’s future and the importance of combating climate change. The students’ visually arresting look at the plight of the polar bears, The Earth Is Warming, as well as other entries, can be viewed at www.earthdaychallenge.org. More information on the Challenge, including interviews and footage of the FL students at work, can be seen at: http://www.youtube.com
