Read for the Record

Read for the Record

An annual, worldwide event, that enlists more than a million people to read to children on a single day each fall, focusing public awareness on the importance of literacy, early childhood education, and community service. Across Florida, thousands of teachers, children and parents participated in the 2008 Read for the Record campaign helping break the record for the number of people reading the same book on the same day. The Pearson Foundation, with the help of the Pearson School sales team, donated the children’s classic Corduroy to all pre-K and kindergarten teachers to read to their classes in Duval County, Miami-Dade County, Orange County, and Pinellas County Public Schools. And the Pearson Higher Education sales force helped host events at Florida State University and Tallahassee Community College. Pearson looks forward to collaborating with schools and teachers in Florida for the 2009 Read for the Record this coming fall. We are pleased to announce that Eric Carle’s Hungry Caterpillar is the book chosen for this year’s Read for the Record.
